Sugar cookies / Sri Lankan style - Gnanakatha





Sugar cookie is a Favorite food among kids, youngsters & also among elders. This cookie recipe is a better choice for your tea time. You can enjoy this cookies as it is or you can mix some chocolate chips when making the dough which will give a heavenly taste. Apart from the ordinary sugar cookie which is popular among many Sri Lankans, you can do many differences to the dough or to the baked cookies to make them more delicious. Variations to the sugar cookie will be explained in the "method" section. Follow the steps.


INGREDIENTS
  • 50 g of butter
  • 1 egg
  • 250 g of all purpose flour
  • 2 tea spoons of baking powder
  • 1 tea spoon of vanilla
  • 120 g of sugar
  • Extra sugar need to dip
METHOD
  • Add butter and sugar to a bowl, beat them
  • Crack an egg to the same bowl, add vanilla essence & beat the mixture again
  • In a separate container mix flour n baking powder
  • Sift the flour and baking powder mixture to the bowl with butter mixture
  • Fold it using a spatula for few seconds and thoroughly fold it using your hand & make a dough
  • Grease a baking tray / put a parchment (oil) paper to a baking tray 
  • Make small balls using the dough
  • Flatten the balls a little (do not make it thin, just give the ball small push from the top)
  • Apply a drop of water in one side of the ball and dip that side in the extra sugar and keep it on the tray (do not apply lot of water, your dough will become watery)
  • Continue the process until the dough ends
  • After dipping one side of each ball in the extra sugar, arrange them orderly in the tray
  • Bake at 180 degrees C in a preheated oven for 20-30 minutes
Changes that you can do to make your cookies more amazing & delicious
  • Need more sugary cookies?                                                                                                                Sprinkle some icing sugar from the top after the cookies are baked
  • Need the chocolate version?                                                                                                                (Follow only one of the below steps at once. Do not follow all)                                                        Add 10 g of chocolate chips or some chocolate shavings to the dough, when making the dough & fold them thoroughly with your hand                                                                                              Sprinkle some cocoa powder from the top after the cookies are baked                                              Dip the top side of the cookies in nutella  after they are baked                                                      Sprinkle some drops of chocolate topping after the sugar cookies are baked                                                                                                                                                                                                                    ~The best for your loved ones❤~
